«إِنَّمَا الْأَعْمَالُ بِالنِّيَّاتِ...»
"Actions are only by intentions."
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī & Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim
Hadith 1 in Imam al-Nawawī's Forty Hadith
Recovering the history of Islamic civilisation to inspire the future of the Ummah.
Allah ﷻ repeatedly calls us throughout the Qur'an to reflect upon the stories of those who came before us. Yet today, many Muslims know very little about the civilisation their predecessors built.
Islamic History Today was created to help change that.
This website exists to answer one question:
What can we learn from Islamic history to strengthen the Ummah today?
History is more than kings, battles and dates. It is the story of scholars, leaders, women, institutions and communities who sought Allah through knowledge, justice and service. Their examples continue to offer lessons for Muslims today.
The challenges facing the Ummah are not new.
Muslims before us also experienced division, occupation, political decline and intellectual stagnation. Yet they also produced remarkable examples of renewal by returning to revelation, building institutions, educating communities and serving society with sincerity.
As Allah says:
"So relate the stories so that they may reflect." (7:176)
Islamic History Today exists to help recover that civilisational memory—not to live in the past, but to benefit from it.
Why It Matters Today
More Than History
Islamic History Today asks not only "What happened?" but "Why does it matter today?"
Through the people, institutions and ideas of Islamic civilisation, this project seeks to reconnect Muslims with their heritage and inspire beneficial action for the future of the Ummah.
This knowledge is shared freely for the sake of Allah—no subscriptions, no paywalls, no barriers.
May Allah ﷻ accept this effort, make it a source of beneficial knowledge, and forgive any errors or shortcomings.
